Back to his old tricks

Timothy Dolan, the bigoted Catholic archbishop of New York City, is at it again. Fresh off his spectacularly failed effort to oppose the right of gays to marry in New York, he's going the national route. Little Timmy just can't go a week without attacking gay people. (He has to be a closet case -- no one else attacks gays with this much venom.)

His new schtick is to attack the Obama administration's decision to not defend DOMA, the Defense of Marriage Act. The thing that has Timmy's bowels in an uproar is this statement:
"The Obama administration says it believes the law that defines marriage as between one man and one woman is unconstitutional."
Them's fightin' words, eh? Well, to Little Timmy they are.
[Little Timmy] warned the president that his policies could "precipitate a national conflict between church and state of enormous proportions."
Are you laughing yet? Wait, there's more.
Dolan said the bishops are especially upset that the administration and opponents of DOMA are framing their argument as a civil rights issue, which he said equates "opposition to redefining marriage with either intentional or willfully ignorant racial discrimination."
Duh. Yep, Timmy. You're a bigot and a scourge. What you do is precisely "intentional" discrimination. You attack gay men, lesbians and transgender people willfully and constantly. What do you think the word "discrimination" means?
He also argued that traditional marriage is best for society, and that treating gay marriage as a civil right would lead to discrimination against believers and against church agencies that could not, for example, accommodate gay couples as adoptive parents.
Don't you love the way he comes right out and says that he and his ilk want to continue to discriminate against gay people? They demand the right to not "accommodate gay couples as adoptive parents". They like this discrimination stuff and want to keep doing it. They really, really like it.

All this, by the way, is from a HuffPo article. I loved this bit:
The bishops' new hard line was welcomed by conservatives, and it comes as Obama is facing record-low opinion ratings.
Yup, Timmy. You're right up there with the biggest wingnuts. Your church is now the Tea Party Catholic Church. Congratulations!
