CNN on whether Christians are "persecuted"

This is a long article. I read the whole thing and was irritated by the first half, which quoted too many Christian bigots who oppose gay people. But it did include the other side (ours), and did so forcefully. (And then ended with a quote from the twits. Sigh.) Still, if you enjoy these sorts of arguments (Did Christ say homosexuality was wrong? No!) then you might enjoy reading "When Christians Become a Hated Minority".

There's too much there to excerpt, but I'll toss out this tidbit about Christians saying they are oppressed when they can't shout their hatred of gays from the rooftops:
“That’s whining on the part of people who spend their days and nights attacking gay people and then some people criticize them and they don’t like it,” he says. “That’s pathetic. It reminds me of slave owners complaining that people are saying ugly things about them.”
So our side does make an appearance. I guess overall, I liked the article. As it suggests, at least we're talking about the "controversy". But of course, these gay-hating Christians are just bigots, pure and simple. And that's the truth.

The pope attacks San Francisco

This morning, Joe Jervis reports that the pope has appointed the worst possible person as Archbishop of San Francisco: Salvatore "I hate gay people" Cordileone. It's literally a rocket attack on SF's gay population.

I wondered why the Catholic church had been so quiet in recent weeks. Apparently, they were loading their rocket-launchers. Today, this news comes out. And yesterday, the priest in charge of harassing American nuns fired his first volley against them, insisting that they speak out against gays and abortion.

The Catholic League for Hatred and Unfairness, centered in the Vatican, is effectively announcing the beginning of an all-out war. They'll lose, of course. And they'll hurt American Catholics in the process. But they don't care. Only hatred matters to them. As I often say, that's quite a religion they've got there.

Funny remark by the popey guy

Pope Benedict XVI warned that without an explicit reference to God, aid work risked "falling prey to harmful ideologies."
I think that's so funny. It's literally impossible to do good without god. Sorry, but it doesn't work that way. He should read this recent study:
Highly religious people are less motivated by compassion than atheists, agnostics and less religious people, according to a new study.
Okay, so he was talking about Catholic aid agencies. But the comparison still applies. The only reason he said this to his aid agencies, by the way, was to ensure that they say vicious things about gays and abortion. According to the popey guy, you must include these hate activities in order to be a Vatican-approved Christian aid agency. (This is also why he's so mad at the nuns: no hate.)

What does this say about his religion and his vicious god? Whew. This popey guy has ruined Christianity in a few short years, not that there was much good about it before his reign. Still, I don't remember Roman Catholicism being anywhere near this hateful before the popey guy popped up.
