Duck guy fired

I think you already know that A&E fired the Duck Dynasty guy after he said anti-gay stuff to GQ. Stuff like this:

"It seems like, to me, a vagina — as a man — would be more desirable than a man's anus, that's just me," the reality star said.

Seems like a real intellectual, which is what you usually get when you watch reality TV. Anyway, I thought I'd post the link since I mentioned this turd yesterday. And speaking of turds...

[Sarah] Palin came to Robertson's defense Wednesday, posting a photo of herself with the 'Duck Dynasty' crew on Facebook.

"Free speech is an endangered species," Palin captioned the picture. "Those 'intolerants' hatin’ and taking on the Duck Dynasty patriarch for voicing his personal opinion are taking on all of us."

I'm sure she meant to say "for voicin' his personal opinion". She just slipped out of character for a moment and forgot to axe the final g. Sarah, you gotta watch that stuff. Tch.

BTW, this article says he was "suspended" rather than fired. Yesterday, I read he was fired. So...what? He'll be back in two weeks? Justice is so ephemeral.

Sarah's blatherings

Via Ed Brayton, I learned that Sarah Palin has a new book out -- and it's about Christmas. Wow, huh? I'll bet reading the book is almost as good as hearing her say empty, senseless things in person.

In Ed's rundown, I was amused to note this quote from the book:

Perhaps Christmas causes so much anger because the very name of the holiday broadcasts the name above all names.

Heh, heh. Not in Xmas Carol, honey. The evil word "Christmas" doesn't appear once in the book. I think that's my favorite thing about the story. It's an Xmas story without Jeebus -- or even Christmas. Fun. Xmas Carol is probably the direct opposite of Sarah's book.

And that means I'm on the right track. Go read it, kids. You'll be glad you did.

This popeyguy has star quality

Even I am falling for his shtick. The Catholics have to be loving this. It's kind of like when Sarah Palin joined the GOP platform and made everyone see sparkles. The Catholics are downright giddy over their new pope -- and rightly so, coming after the corpse-like performance of the popeyguy emeritus.

I want to point out one more positive factor from the new popeyguy's performance yesterday. I couldn't find the link until last night. Here it is:

“Given that many of you do not belong to the Catholic Church, and others are not believers, I give this blessing from my heart, in silence, to each one of you, respecting the conscience of each one of you, but knowing that each one of you is a child of God,” he said. “May God bless you.” 

If we didn't have assurances from Argentina's gays that Francis is the devil himself, I might even like this guy. I mean, here he is saying decent things about non-believers, going so far as to say he respects the conscience of each of them. 

But those gay folks in Argentina didn't come to hate him for no reason. Still, I'm quite enjoying the show the new popeyguy's putting on. And yes, I think that's what it is. A show. Time will tell.
