It's appalling that gay couples in Utah were told to put their lives
on hold -- because Jeebus. And make no mistake, the Christian god is at
the heart of this abuse.
SALT LAKE CITY — In a move that cast doubt over the marriages of roughly 1,000 same-sex couples in Utah, the United States Supreme Court on Monday blocked further same-sex marriages there while state officials appeal a decision allowing such unions.
It
sounds so legal, so clean and polished. But this is about people's
hopes and dreams, it's about the love at the heart of their lives.
Remind me again why they're stopping these marriages.
Brian S. Brown, president of National Organization for Marriage [a Jeebus-based hate group], which opposes same-sex marriage, said he supported Monday’s Supreme Court order.
“The decision by a single federal judge to redefine marriage in Utah is lawless,” he said, “and we are pleased that the Supreme Court has put this decision on hold to allow the state to appeal it in an orderly fashion.”
"Orderly" is a funny word to use for wrecking people's lives. Imagine if this situation affected a thousand straight
couples. The media would pull out all the stops and pounce on the
obvious injustice of the move. And on the other end, viewers would have
no trouble understanding that putting someone's marriage on hold is wrong -- if the story concerned straight couples. But these are merely gay couples so...never mind.
And they use such cold language, these legal henchmen:
In their Supreme Court brief, Utah officials said Judge Shelby’s decision should be stayed “to minimize the enormous disruption to the state and its citizens of potentially having to ‘unwind’ thousands of same-sex marriages.”
Yes,
indeed. The "disruption to the state" is what counts. Never mind the
gay couples whose lives are put on hold by this move. Note that they use
yet another casual word to describe this stabbing, hurtful action:
"unwind". To the Utah officials who fought allowing gays to marry, the
pressing issue is not the injustice done to the couples. It is that the
poor state will have to unwind these marriages. Another orderly word used to describe the decimation of lives. It's sickening.
